I have just stumbled across this site and read the foregoing comments. We are still members of the CC but seriously considering leaving. This after an instance of full blown 'Little Hitler' syndrome at the Ramslade site this August (2011). We take our three very well behaved dogs with us and take a good deal of trouble to see that they are not a nuisance to any other campers. Unfortunately, the old dog had an attack of diarrhea on the grass beside our 'van. Well of course we cleaned it up but there was a slight residue that no amount of water seemed to shift. This was spotted by the warden, an extremely objectionable character, who launched into the most violent verbal attack, would not listen to any reason and threatened us with expulsion from the CC. I subsequently saw him in his office and demanded a name and number to whom I could make an official complaint, which we did. We got no apology from the CC and indeed, the man who did contact us seemed to have every sympathy for Adolf and not much for us. So far this is a one off but I notice that when logging on to the site now, the first thing you encounter is a link to their 'Bye-Laws'. Who the hell do they think they are? It so happens that I receive invitations to partake in CC surveys and in the most recent one, one of the questions was 'If the CC were a person, who would it be?' I answered, 'Mary Whitehouse'.

Thanks Steve, I need to join a club because I will need the Canet status for overseas campsite access, probably time to try something new and have a go at the C&CC

Cheers

Hello David,

This is a difficult call because it is so much up to the individual. I used to be in both clubs but then left the C&CC and stayed with the CC but I have now left this one as well. I find the CC booking policy very frustrating because the good sites get booked up months in advance and this prevents any spontaneity which is what Motorhoming is all about. I believe this is because the CC don't charge a booking fee so although the sites may be booked out not everyone turns up. The C&CC do charge a booking fee so if I was to rejoin a club it would be that one. At the moment we are using the many sites that are not part of either club and are finding that they are an excellent alternative and there are plenty of them to go around. So at the moment I can't see us going back to either club which doesn't help you decide what to do but the alternative is worth you considering.

Kind Regards,
Steve

I have stumbled into this debate as I am looking for advice on which clubb to join.
I gave up my caravan after 30 years a couple of years back(kids grown up) and have a Romahome R20 LO on order. I was for 20++ years a CC memeber and am trying to decide where to spend my £40 m/ship fee to the best advantage. All advicer welcome.

Thank for your response Steve - I formally complained to the Caravan Club as believe it or not you cannot directly contact the CCNC by email - Their website gives the option to contact them but it doesn't work! Maybe they were getting too many adverse comments.

Anyway I sent a complaint directly to the Caravan Club to which I received a holding reply advising that my email have been forwarded onto the Norfolk Centre. I subsequently received another reply advising that they will discuss my comments fully at their next committee meeting on 17th May.

I will let you know what I hear after this date!

Thanks very much Roger for your enlightening comment. It would certainly seem that there are some people within the CC that need a change of attitude, mind you this also applies to the C&CC as well. Both clubs talk about us visitors showing respect to each other when on site so they really should practise what they preach themselves.

After our experience last weekend I thought that it would be worth sharing.

My wife and myself, along with our kids (9 & 12) have been caravanning for over ten years and during that time have been members of both caravanning clubs although more recently just the C&CC as we got fed up with the anti kids attitude of wardens on cc club sites.

Anyway this weekend we went away with good friends to Breck Farm in North Norfolk - beside Kelling Heath. On arrival we saw a sign stating CCNC Rally - Caravan Clubs Norfolk Centre were on site as well.

I was just absolutely amazed at the anal attitude of the CCNC - Trying to stop kids from playing on a huge field adjacent to their area, stopping people walking past to gain access to the surrounding woodland and when a three year olds inflatable ball bounced towards them the "Hitler" guarding (for want of better words) the entrance to their field screamed at her!

They tried to stop anyone near them from using the open spaces despite the owners of the site confirming that all areas were open to all - They even stopped anyone from putting anything in the sites bins nearest to the area where they were pitched.

In a nutshell I was disgusted by the CCNC and the way they tried to take over this private site.

I will never again consider having anything to do with the caravan club - we were not even on a caravan club site but their rally thought they were better than anyone else - A sad bunch.

Anyway - should any members of the CCNC read this and were present at Breck Farm on the weekend of the Royal Wedding then shame on you!

Hello Peter,
Wow, your experience at Seacroft sounds awful and it's such a shame that the wardens weren't more understanding, sounds like it's cost the Caravan Club a good customer.
Has anyway else experienced anything like this from either club I wonder, and has it turned them off and caused them to change their allegiance.
Please let us know your story.
Kind Regards,
Steve

We have just joined the camping and caravan club and are already members of the caravan club.We will probably drop the caravan club next year as we can't get past the down the nose attitude we get from the majority of wardens when they see our muched loved Bertha arrive on their precious site! Last year we went to the Seacroft site in Norfolk and our daughter drove her own car over to visit for the day.
She had to pay to visit us ,then unfortunately we became ill we had to leave her car on the site and travel home in the motorhome ,as it had a toilet! The wardens new we were ill but still made us pay an extra nights camping fee for my daughters car, even though we could have left it in there carpark out of the way, until we could get back the next day to pick it up.Anal and jobsworth are some of the words that come to mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!
