Things are definitely on the change with regard to Motorhome Parking in the UK with more and more councils considering what they can do to encourage Motorhomes into their towns and to keep them there for more than a fleeting visit. This is something we’ve discussed a number of times on this site and is a particular frustration of mine in the UK. When will the councils provide good, sensible Motorhome parking in the towns so that we can make the most of our visits and stop picking up all of those unfair parking tickets.
Now I’m not expecting a vast number of Aires to be constructed so let’s clear that up straight away but I do want legal, safe Motorhome Parking at a fair price in most UK holiday towns as soon as is possible. Ironically, it is perhaps the financial situation that is actually going to help us, because as more and more businesses are feeling the pinch they are becoming increasingly concerned in UK holiday hot spots at how much business will be generated this summer. Now the more people they can get into the town centres and get to stay there then the more business will be generated. I would hope that the success of the many opportunities of Motorhome parking in France and the extra revenue that the towns receive indirectly from that has been spotted by our eagle eyed councillors.
Teignmouth County Council have been considering Motorhome parking for some time and indeed we do get a couple of mentions in a Parking Strategy document that they recently produced. It now transpires that a Motorhome parking trial scheme is to be launched prior to Easter and what this means is that they will be relaxing the ‘no overnight rule’ at two car parks. Following a review later in the year they will decide whether to expand this to more car parks. The car parks are at Dawlish Warren and Eastcliffe and you will be allowed to park overnight in these car parks for free but you will need to pay for day parking as normal and I believe there will be a 2 night limit.
I’ve had a look at the Teignmouth County Council web site and searched for Motorhome parking but haven’t found the exact location of the car parks but I have sent them an email today for this information and as soon as I get a response I will add it to this post.
